So you’ve made the Honeycomb Bead and been introduced to tessellation as a three-dimensional art form. Are you wondering what’s next? Martha is offering a two day workshop called Tessellation — Next Steps.
Objective Each student will design and fabricate a piece of flatware using a tessellation pattern of his or her choosing. There are many patterns to choose from. Each piece of flatware will use the same constructive technique but the handle and base will be unique. When you have completed this workshop you will have the knowledge and experience to make additional pieces of flatware uniquely your own. The possibilities are endless…large serving pieces, salad servers, desert forks, etc. You will learn new techniques that can also be applied to making jewelry, hollowware, or sculpture. Martha has collected antique flatware for years and will use the pieces in her collection as inspiration to help you design and fabricate your own piece.
Skill Level Basic soldering, sawing, and fabricating skills required.
Costs and Procedures Tuition for the workshop is $200 plus a materials fee.
Materials Each student will receive a materials kit which includes everything needed to complete the project, as well as a comprehensive illustrated set of instructions.
Even though Martha’s studio is equipped with the necessary hand tools, students are encouraged to bring their own hand tools such as pliers, cone nose plastic hammer, chisel/flat face plastic hammer, scribe, saw, files, etc.
