Objective This is a two-day, project-based course in which each student will fabricate a beautiful wine coaster using the hydraulic press deep draw process. The wine coaster features a seamless base and embellished rim of your choosing – etched, embossed, soldered, forged, and corrugated textures are just some of the possibilities. You will learn how the deep draw process is used to fabricate candle holders, vases, bowls, boxes and more. Experience how satisfying it is to craft an heirloom-worthy decorative object!
Students will receive a comprehensive set of instructions giving them the ability to reproduce the project on their own. For a small hourly fee, students who have completed this course can arrange to use Martha’s hydraulic press and deep draw equipment for future hydraulic press projects.
Skill Level Intermediate
Costs and Procedures Tuition for the two-day workshop is $200 plus a materials fee.
Materials Each student will receive a materials kit which includes everything needed to complete the project, as well as a comprehensive illustrated set of instructions.
Even though Martha’s studio is equipped with the necessary hand tools, students are encouraged to bring their own hand tools such as pliers, cone nose plastic hammer, chisel/flat face plastic hammer, scribe, saw, files, etc.
