Objective This is a project-based course in which each student will fabricate a beautiful honeycomb candleholder. You will learn a unique technique that can be used for assembling flatware, hollowware, or jewelry components. You will work with specialized tools and use a manufactured form to make a large honeycomb tessellation that is the focal element of the candleholder. Experience how satisfying it is to craft an heirloom-worthy decorative object!
Students will complete the honeycomb candleholder project and learn techniques for assembling various components. Each student will leave with a printed handout of detailed instructions that includes a list of resources to acquire supplies to make a matching candleholder or for other flatware, hollowware and jewelry projects.
Skill Level Intermediate soldering, sawing and fabricating skills required.
Costs and Procedures Tuition for this three day Honeycomb Candleholder Workshop $300 plus a materials fee.
Materials Each student will receive a materials kit which includes everything needed to complete the project, as well as a comprehensive illustrated set of instructions.
Even though Martha’s studio is equipped with the necessary hand tools, students are encouraged to bring their own hand tools such as pliers, cone nose plastic hammer, chisel/flat face plastic hammer, scribe, saw, files, etc.
