Objective This is a project-based workshop in which each student will fabricate a beautiful sterling silver honeycomb bead. Students will learn about tessellation as it applies to 3 dimensional metal work. This is a unique technique that can be used for components in flatware, hollowware, sculpture or jewelry. Each student will work with a manufactured form to make a small honeycomb tessellation that is the focal element of the bead. Martha will demonstrate how to use the form with or without the hydraulic press.
Skill Level Basic soldering and fabricating skills
Costs and Procedures Tuition for the one day workshop is $100 plus a materials fee.
Materials A Honeycomb Tessellation Form will be provided for each student to use. There is no obligation to purchase the form, but they will be available for purchase at the end of the workshop. The retail price is $150 plus tax. Martha will explain various ways students can make their own honeycomb form if desired.
Each student will receive a materials kit which includes everything needed to complete the project, as well as a comprehensive illustrated set of instructions.
Even though Martha’s studio is equipped with the necessary hand tools, students are encouraged to bring their own hand tools such as pliers, chisel/flat face plastic hammer, saw, files, etc.
