Objective This is a 2 day workshop in which each student will complete a forged zigzag bracelet and a small forged bowl. Students will learn how metal moves with different tools and techniques while learning the proper body positions and movements to reduce weariness and stress on joints. Each student will have access to Martha’s Honeycomb Tessellation Form, a stump or wood dapping block and essential hammers, stakes and hand tools.
Skill Level Beginner level and above; no prior metalworking experience required.
Costs and Procedures The 2 day workshop will cost $200 plus a materials fee.
Materials A Honeycomb Tessellation Form will be provided for each student to use during the class. There is no obligation to purchase the form, but they will be available for purchase at the end of the workshop. The retail price is $150 plus tax. Students in the workshop will be given a 15% discount if they wish to purchase the form. Martha will explain various ways students can make their own honeycomb form if desired.
Each student will receive a materials kit which includes everything needed to complete the project, as well as a comprehensive illustrated set of instructions.
Even though Martha’s studio is equipped with the necessary hand tools, students are encouraged to bring their own hand tools such as ball peen hammer, chisel/flat face plastic hammer, cone shaped plastic hammer, planishing hammer, saw, files, etc.
